Styralyl acetate has a sweet rhubarb aroma with hints of phenyl ethyl alcohol (petal-like), straddling fruity and floral olfactory territory. Like many other esters, it's a very strong top note and thus usually used in traces to provide a delightful initial impact upon spraying the perfume. While useful for its rhubarb smell, it's historical use is in creating floral accords and bases; most synonymously in gardenia, but also in other florals such as rose and lilac. It features in many perfumes, such as Ma Griffe, L’Air du Temps, Miss Dior, Cabochard, and Rhubarb My Love, and is instantly recognisable.
